A pop-up bookshop at Carlisle train station has raised nearly £5000 for a local charity in its first year.
The pop-up bookshelf was set up in June last year, and has subsequently raised an incredible £4989.32 for Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, which provides specialist care to people in Cumbria with life-limiting conditions.
On Facebook, Eden Valley Hospice wrote: "Back in June of last year Avanti West Coast station staff kindly allowed us a space for a pop-up book shop, located to the left of the main entrance to the train station.
"Fast forward a year - the bookshelf has helped raise a staggering £4,989.32 for both Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw. A brilliant amount which will have such a positive impact on the compassion and care we provide to those in the community.
A huge thank you to Avanti West Coast and to those who have used the bookshelf – whether that be to buy books or donate them."
