THIS month news emerged that controversial comedian Roy 'Chubby' Brown will perform in West Cumbria.
The comic is set to take to the stage at The Solway Hall in Whitehaven in May 2025.
Despite the comic's 'offensive' material the community response has so far been positive.
An article published by Newsquest earlier this month brought the news of Brown's performance to public attention, with many taking to social media to welcome the comedian.
Alan Spedding said: "A comedian that's actually funny, unlike every one of today's stand-ups. I remember Roy 'Chubby' Brown and Bernard Manning doing our Sellafield Christmas parties years ago."
Carolyn Proud said: "He's a thoroughly nice man, I met him and his lovely wife. It's just an act for goodness’ sake, nobody is forcing you to watch."
Jack Lester said: "He used to be a regular at a bar I worked at back in Middlesbrough, in person he is such a lovely guy, 'Chubby' is just a character he plays."
Barry McCann said: "His publicity does always say if you're easily offended, please stay away, so folk have been warned."
Shaun Wheatcroft said: "He's a very funny comedian, if you don't like his brand of comedy then don't go to the show, each to their own."
Brown has been performing since the early 1970s and has seen a great deal of success as a stand-up comedian, performing all over the UK and internationally, and amassing over 30 home releases.
Due to the nature of his material, he has rarely appeared on television, but, he has however maintained a strong fanbase in the five decades he has been performing live.

His comedy style is often compared to Manchester comedian Bernard Manning, who was popular on the northern club circuit throughout the 1970s and 80s.
A spokesperson of Roy 'Chubby' Brown's promotion team said: "50 plus years in entertainment/comedy, Roy 'Chubby' Brown is still going strong, entertaining thousands and thousands of fans annually up and down the country, Roy is the undoubted King of Comedy."
His show will take place on May 9, 2025. More details can be found online and on social media.
