A Carlisle fishmongers has spoken of its ‘immense sense of achievement, pride and honour’ after being crowned fishmonger of the year in two separate awards.

Bells fishmongers in Carlisle has been crowned Fishmongers of the Year by both the National Federation of Fishmongers and the Farm Shop and Deli Show awards.

The National Federal of Fishmongers said that Bells stood out as “particularly exceptional” and “really impressed our judges as much as they seem to impress their customers.”

The team were “highly skilled” and “very knowledgeable” and their product range, including lots of locally caught fish and shellfish was “outstanding.”

Their huge range of homemade products were all prepared ‘beautifully’ according to the federation and the attention to detail across every part of the business was “so impressive”

In a social media post, Bells said: “There’s an immense sense of achievement, pride & honour to be judged by the industries finest and both the public to be the best in the UK in this amazing trade.

“What a privilege to be part of the finest, age-old tradition and get to work with all the passionate, hardworking people in it.

“It means the world to us, everyone has worked relentlessly to make the business what it is today, and it would not be possible without the dream team.

“Our customers are a bunch of loyal people, who make us feel part of the community.

“A massive shout to all the other finalists who made it such a tough competition, and to all the outstanding fishmongers in the UK, who all do an amazing job, whom we openly seek as inspiration in what we do and emulate the best of what each individual shops do each day.

“At the same time, we can hopefully inspire others in the trade to shout about the world class skills and produce the UK has to offer.”

These two awards continue a run of award success for Bell’s who continue to go from strength to strength.

The Carlisle fishmongers has been trading in the city since the 1970s and is viewed as a Carlisle institution with hundreds of loyal customers from across Cumbria.
