An author of self-help books held a successful fundraising event of music and entertainment last month.

Carlisle woman Judith Cook’s most recent book and second in her bibliography, The Gift of Human Kindness, focused on the small things other people do for each other to show kindness, and how her experiences with ill health and suicidal ideation impacted her understanding of empathy.

She said she realised the power and healing aspect of kindness after a comforting call with her doctor while considering suicide, something which was brought on severely during her menopause, which she discussed in the autobiographical My Doors of Destiny.

It was released last year and on July 27 she revealed a ‘reborn’ edition of her sophomore release with ‘added extras’ and ‘a new look right from the beginning’.

The event was held at Eden Care Manor at Morton, Carlisle and involved singing from herself, a professional entertainer, a buffet, raffle, and book signing,

The event fundraised for Cash For Kids Cumbria and Southwest Scotland, from which Sara Oldham appeared as a special guest.

Ms Cook said: “It was a great turnout for a fabulous event of singing and book signing, all in aid of a worthy cause.

“I just wish to thank everyone for their support and Eden Care Manor staff and residents for a great afternoon.”
