A Carlisle pub is set to receive a day of free electricity.

As part of its partnership with Team GB and ParalympicsGB, British Gas is providing The Spinners Arms free electricity for fans to watch the Paris Olympics 2024.

The pub is among 10 across the country to benefit from this scheme on Friday, August 2, allowing spectators to view Team GB athletes compete in athletics, beach volleyball, rowing, and swimming.

This initiative is part of British Gas' PeakSave for Business trial, which has seen more than 2,500 businesses across the UK sign up.

It aims to reward business customers for shifting their electricity usage to times when there is less demand, or more renewable electricity available on the grid, supporting a greener energy supply.

Matt Wood, director at British Gas Business Energy, said: “Since launching PeakSave, we've helped over 600,000 customers reduce costs and play their part in reducing electricity use at peak times.

"And now we’re excited to be rolling out our PeakSave for Business trial as well.

“We’re proud to help our customers and British small business in Carlisle, including The Spinners Arms, make significant savings and utilise cleaner, greener energy – and what better way to kick things off than helping the nation watch more sport for less as we cheer on Team GB and ParalympicsGB this summer.

“Whatever the sport, we’ll be powering home fans cheering on all of our Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes.”

British Gas also plans to extend its PeakSave hours for the millions of homeowners watching the Olympics and Paralympic Games.

It will offer households half-price electricity every Sunday from 9am to 5pm during the games, which run from July 28 until September 8, and on two Saturdays, August 3 and September 7.

To register for PeakSave, customers must be with British Gas and have a smart meter; any savings will be credited to their energy bills.

Businesses participating in the British Gas PeakSave for Business trial, running until August 30, will receive 50 percent off their electricity from 11am to 4pm every Friday.

Savings that businesses accumulate during the trial will appear as credit on energy bills.
