A Lacrosse Club is appealing for information and witnesses after its second break-in in 2024.

Border City Lacrosse Club was broken into at Cotehill Park Sports Ground on Howard Road, Brampton on Friday, July 26, with the perpetrators causing hundreds of pounds of damage to the club which it shares with Irthing Vale Cricket Club.

This is the second time in 2024 that the club has been broken into after an earlier incident in April.

Dan Clements is the chair of Border City Lacrosse Club and spoke about the latest incident as well as its potential ramifications for the group.

He said: "Everything is voluntary and we have to scrape to get any funding we can and every time they break in they willfully damage stuff which we have to replace which holds back the development of the clubs.

"We offer coaching to kids without charge and we make it inclusive for everyone so it is a bit depressing when people smash it up.

"This break-ins this year have caused £500 to £600 of damage.

"We are just hoping that we can find who the culprits are, we want it to stop, and we want to educate people locally to the fact that a community asset is being vandalised constantly and it won't last forever if it continues because we will run out of funds to keep repairing it."

For Dan, Border City Lacrosse Club's mission is to develop the sport and provide opportunities for locals to get involved at no cost, something it may not be able to continue in the future if the break-ins persist.

The incident also represents a double blow for the club with Lacrosse set to feature at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles for the first time since 1908 and the club aiming to produce the Olympians of the future.

He said: "We provide kids with coaching on a Saturday morning and we don't charge them for that, we provide all of the equipment.

"We run a men's and a women's team and we put thousands of hours into promoting the sport and developing the ground.

"On top of that we do school coaching and this year we have coached around 560 kids in schools all over Cumbria."

In relation to the incident, Cumbria Police are appealing for witnesses and information and are urging anyone with any knowledge of the circumstances to get in touch.

A Cumbria Police spokesperson said: "We were contacted at 9.45 am on July 26 to a report of a break-in at the cricket grounds.

"Our incident 57 of 26 July.
