Residents, community groups, and businesses still have time to make their voices heard on the highway plans for Cleator Moor.

An engagement event took place on July 30 at the Cleator Moor Civic Hall and Masonic Centre where proposals were showcased.

There is still time to comment on the plans at https://tinyurl.com/2448fha7.

Bob Metcalfe, chair of the Cleator Moor Town Deal Board, said: “Thanks to everyone that attended our engagement event.

“If you were unable to make it, you can see all the exhibition material on our website and you can also have your say by taking part in our online survey.

“Please take a look and respond before Friday 9 August. Your opinion matters.”

Connected Town aims to promote more walking and cycling in and around the town, improving accessibility and boosting gateways into the town.

More than 3.5km of walking and cycling paths are set to be upgraded as part of the project.

The scheme will better link Cleator Moor with opportunities in employment, education, and health services outside of town.

It also seeks to enhance the town's perception as an innovative and dynamic place to live, work, and visit.

Under the proposed plan, seven locations across the town are marked for potential investment in new or improved paths for cyclists and pedestrians.

These are Mill Hill to the Leconfield Industrial Estate; Leconfield Industrial Estate to Birks Road; Town Square frontage; Aldby Grove to the east of Wath Brow Junction; Market Square to Cleator Mills link; the Leconfield to Activity Centre link and the Leconfield Industrial Estate links.

The project also includes proposed improvements to three road junctions, which are Wath Brow the Bowthorn Road/Whitehaven Road junction, and the Leconfield junction.

An additional emphasis is on enhancing Cleator Moor's gateways or main road entry points.

Connected Town is part of the larger Cleator Moor Town Deal, which successfully secured £22.5m from the Government's Towns Fund, topped up with an additional £18.4m from other funders.
