HUNDREDS of people gathered in the pouring rain to watch noughties boyband Blue take to the stage at a Pride event.

Antony Costa, Duncan James, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe delighted fans with a show-stopping performance at the Colours Community Festival on Whitehaven Harbour last night (Friday).

The headline act thanked spectators for waiting in the rain to see them before belting out hits including All Rise, Too Close, Flyby and One Love.

Also taking to the stage was 90s dance act Whigfield, who performed the smash hit Saturday Night, after teasing crowds that the song wasn’t on the bill – because it was Friday.

Pop group Sam and the Womp delighted crowds with their upbeat tracks including number one single Bom Bom.

The free community concert was held as part of a three-day celebration organised by Proud and Diverse Cumbria.

It kicked off with the opening of Colours Whitehaven, an inclusion hub and café based at King Street, on Thursday.

The free community concert, held in association with Cumberland Council and Copeland Community Fund, took place last night while the main event, Pride by the Harbourside, will get underway today (Saturday). It will be headlined by DJ Sash and 90s boyband 911.

Emma Williamson, deputy leader of Cumberland Council, said: “I was extremely proud to see the happiness last night’s Colours concert brought. The volunteers from Proud and Diverse Cumbria worked extremely hard to bring a free concert and despite the rain, many people had so much fun, celebrating everyone’s uniqueness.”

The pride event is being held in association with Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, Cumberland Council, Cumbria Constabulary and a number of sponsors.
