AN IT consultant has appeared in court accused of dishonestly abusing his position to make a gain of more than £25,000.
Ben Newberry, 33, did not enter a plea to one charge of fraud by abuse of position when he appeared at Workington Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
It is alleged that Newberry committed fraud while working as an IT consultant, in which he was expected to safeguard the financial interests of St Bridget’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Egremont.
The defendant is accused of dishonestly abusing his position to make a gain of £25,354, between January 2020 and December 2022.
Newberry, of Wollenscroft, Stainburn, Workington, will appear at Carlisle Crown for a plea and trial preparation hearing on September 2.
