A TRIAL date has been set in the case of a man accused of causing the death of a fellow motorist by dangerous driving on a main Cumbria road.

George Henry Jackson, who was aged 75 and lived at Wigton, was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle collision on the A595 between Bothel and Mealsgate. This was reported to have occurred just after midnight on July 1 this year.

It involved a blue Honda Civic driven by Mr Jackson, and a Toyota Rav vehicle.

An inquest into Mr Jackson’s death was opened by a coroner late last month.

At Carlisle Crown Court today (Monday), Noel Collins appeared in front of a judge.

Collins, aged 33, faces two charges. One alleges that he caused the death of Mr Jackson by the dangerous driving of a Toyota Rav on the A595.

A second charge alleges the dangerous driving of that vehicle.

No pleas were entered by Collins during today’s short court hearing in front of Judge Nicholas Barker.

A trial date was set and this is due to start in front of a jury at the crown court on July 14 next year.

Collins, of Sheer Nest, Lane, Holme, near Milnthorpe, is next due to appear in court for a further plea and case management on November 11.

In the meantime he remains on bail.
