Families across Cumbria are being invited to honour cherished ones at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw's annual Garden of Memories event.

The hospice is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Eden Valley Memorial Garden at Bitts Park, Carlisle.

The memorial garden was established to serve as a reflective and serene space for the community.

Lorna de Mello Wright, relationship fundraiser, said: "It costs about £13,150 per day to keep the hospice's doors open.

"The hospice relies on donations, fundraising, and the generosity of the local community, as only 20 per cent of the income is government funded.

"We want to make sure we are always here for the families and individuals who need our care.

"Choosing to take part in this year’s Garden of Memories will help to provide quality care to adults and children throughout Cumbria today and for many years to come."

Taking part in the Garden of Memories is simple.

Individuals are asked to donate, and the name of the person they wish to commemorate will be displayed in the hospice's Garden of Memories, which will be open for viewing throughout August.

Ms De Mello Wright added: "Our Garden of Memories services are here for anyone who needs them, not just those who already have a connection to the hospice.

"We offer bereavement counselling and family support along with other community activities, like our Comfort Café.

"Hospice care looks different to everyone, but we tailor our care to ensure it suits each individual.

"By ensuring physical symptoms are well managed, having access to emotional support, and with your ongoing generosity, we can continue to make final memories free of worry, pain, and discomfort."

The two public events are set to take place on Sunday, August 11, in Bitts Park at 5pm, and on Tuesday, August 13, at Eden Valley Hospice at 6.30pm.

To register, individuals are encouraged to visit the Eden Valley Hospice website or contact the hospice directly.
