10-year-old Leo Mason has tackled all 214 Wainwrights, now he's setting his sights on ticking off Everest Base Camp.

Leo and his dad Michael, who are from Frizington, have launched a fundraiser to help them achieve their dream of hiking to Everest Base Camp.

Having already completed the Wainwrights - and taking on the challenge a second time to complete them as fast as possible - Everest was a new feat for the pair to set their sights on.

Leo's dad Michael Mason said: "It's something that me and Leo have sort of spoken about for quite a while whilst we were doing the Lake District, and a friend of ours has done it, and we've watched quite a lot of documentaries on TV and stuff like that.

"We just said it'd be a perfect challenge for Leo to be able to do because he loves being in the mountains.

"It all just stemmed from a little conversation in the mountains that we had, and then I suppose you could say we've finally plucked up the courage to see if we can raise some funds to do it."

Three years ago when Leo was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome and ADHD, the family discovered that hiking and exercise helped him sleep better and eased his tics.

Given all that Leo has achieved so far and how much exercise he does in the form of hiking, scrambling, and climbing, Michael is confident that they should be able to tackle their next great feat.

"We've done quite a bit of research on Everest Base Camp and the only thing that I suppose is more difficult is the altitude training," he said.

"The reality of it is, we can't really train for that anywhere in the UK so it's just about keeping Leo fit.

"We've looked at the days that you go hiking in Everest and Leo actually does much bigger hikes than that already. So some of the hikes that we do in the Lake District are bigger and more elevation gain than what we would do on those days."
