A MUSEUM in West Cumbria is hosting an event exploring local mining history.
The Beacon in Whitehaven will host the event at The Portal on August 17 and 18 discussing the history of local mines.
In a post on social media, The Beacon wrote: "Local genealogist Bry Cooper will be on-site to offer advice on tracing your family history, whether you’re unsure of where to start, or need a bit of advice on where else to look.
"The Top Floor of the Portal will be a quiet space to allow visitors to reflect on what they’ve learned and contemplate the significance of the mining history in the local area.
"The event in the Portal will be free admission, though entry to the museum will require admission or a valid annual pass."
