A MAJOR Cumbrian classic car show will take place this weekend - with over 800 classic cars set to go on display.

Over 850 cars will be on display at the Cumbria Classic & Motor Sport Show on August 18 at Dalemain Mansion. The oldest cars are a pair of Model T Fords from 1914 - the car that started mass production in vehicles.

The weekend start in Carlisle on Saturday when 93 cars set off on the Rose & Thistle Tour.

The featured classes this year for  French and German cars and both have a wide selection of saloons and sporting cars.

Across the whole show there are over 850 cars have been entered, some 470 individual entries and  380 from 34 different clubs.

New this year is a dog show and a children’s treasure hunt.

The taster auto-test will allow exhibitors to have a go at motorsport in the grass test while the Wigton Motor Club display will have a variety of competition cars on show, the star exhibit being the M Sport Ford Puma WRC.

The trade area is again well supported with autojumble, cakes, charities and car related items.

Amongst the traders is motoring journalist, John Fife, who has covered rallying in Scotland and further afield for over 50 years, he will be selling his new books on the history of the Tour of Mull and the Scottish Rally Championship.

Dalemain can be reached from Junction 40 of the M6 by the A66 and then the A592, CA11 0HB.  The show is open to the public from 11am until 4pm.

Admission is £10 per person and children (under 16) are free.
