England’s teenage Cumbrian boxing star John Joe Carrigan has added a further accolade to his growing collection.
The young Carlisle boxer, representing England, was named best male boxer at the Brandenburg Cup in Germany.
It followed a gold medal-winning performance by the Border City Amateur Boxing Club star on the European stage.
Carrigan, who has won a string of national and regional titles as well as some impressive showings for England, won the under-70kg category.
He was too good for German opponent Festim Nimani in the final on Saturday.
Carrigan gained the unanimous decision of the judges to take the gold medal.
It followed unanimous wins in his two previous bouts in the tournament, against Netherlands' Hamed Haidari and Danil Serdjoek, as Carrigan was named the top young male boxer on show.
Carrigan, a double European champion, will now prepare to box on the global stage when he competes in the world youth championships in the USA in the autumn.
“Massive well done John Joe from everyone at your club,” said Border City ABC.
