A CROWN court judge is to pass sentence on a Carlisle man who twice made off from restaurants in the city without paying.

Lewis O’Neil, 24, committed the first offence on April 5, when he failed to settle a £70 bill and the second offence on August 12, when the bill he dodged was for £200.

Court papers do no confirm which restaurant was involved. The defendant, of Ullswater Road, Carlisle, admitted both offences.

At the city's Rickergate court, O’Neil also pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to a pair of jeans, an offence he committed on August 7.

Remanding the defendant in custody, District Judge John Temperley noted that the offences placed O’Neil in breach of a crown court suspended sentence order.

He sent the case to that court for a sentence hearing on September 10.

An earlier hearing heard that O’Neil, of Ullswater Road, Carlisle, is at risk of a jail sentence. He spoke only to confirm his identity and to enter his guilty plea.
