Cumbria is set to host another historic rail tour as the county’s stunning scenery and unique history continue to attract the crowds.
Passengers will travel in style from Crewe to Carlisle on Saturday, August 24 aboard one the country’s most iconic steam locomotives.
The outbound journey will see passengers travel up the West Coast mainline to Lancaster before climbling the first severe gradient up to Grayrigg.
They will then travel through the Lune Gorge to Tebay, gaining speed for the ascent to Shap.
This section of the West Coast mainline has a gradient of 1 in 75 and, in the former days of steam locomotives, banking engines from Tebay were often used to assist trains.

The locomotive will arrive at Carlisle at 12:40 before returning over the iconic Settle to Carlisle line which is regarded as amongst the most scenic train journeys in the world.
The carriages will be hauled by the 34067 Tangmere which was built in 1947.
After spending 40 years out of service, the Tangmere was reinstated and finally emerged, complete with a coat of BR Brunswick Green paint in 2003.
The steam engine is based at Carnforth and owned by West Coast Railways.
