Carlisle's Palestinian advocacy group has staged another demonstration outside the city's Barclays as they continue to call for customers to boycott the bank over its alleged connections with Israel.

Accusations leveled against the bank detail its direct loans to manufacturers and incorporation of military investments in customer portfolios.

“We find that the public is very interested in learning about banking interests,” a spokesperson said.

“Many passers-by and banking customers stop to discuss the issues with us, highlighting national and global concerns with banking and drawing parallels between the bank’s investment in the fossil fuel industry and history of funding apartheid in South Africa," they said.

Previously members of the group disrupted Barclays' AGM in Glasgow.

The demonstration followed prior to the group's weekly vigil in the city centre calling for peace in the Middle East.

The group revealed plans for a 'Divestment Day' event on August 31, seeking to spotlight council spending and possible links to companies that allegedly support Israeli oppression.

They aim to launch a campaign urging the council to liquidate investments in such companies.

The group will also be screening an Australian documentary, 'Palestine Under Siege', this Friday (August 24) at 7pm at the Church of Scotland.

The film presents Jewish and Palestinian Australians exploring the realities of life under occupation in the Holy Land.

Interviewees include Palestinians who experienced home evictions as children and continue to face rampant evictions under apartheid.

Barclays has previously been approached for comment.
