A Brampton pensioner is set to raise money for Parkinson's UK with a charity pilgrimage through Portugal and Spain.

80-year-old David Bamford is set to complete his second Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage that leads to the shrine of the apostle James in north-west Spain.

David will walk around 265 kilometres from Porto in Portugal to Santiago de Compostela, where the remains of the apostle are buried.

Ahead of this walk, one of David's friends who suffers from Parkinson's sponsored his efforts, with David deciding to donate the money to Parkinson's UK, a national charity that aims 'to improve the quality of life for people affected by Parkinson's and find a cure for the condition'.

David also set up a JustGiving site to raise more money for the charity, and to date has raised £438.

He said: "A friend who suffers from Parkinson's, and whom I visit, knew that I was planning this pilgrimage and gave me a sum of money by way of sponsorship, so I decided to donate this to Parkinson's UK and set up a fundraising page with Just Giving in recognition.

"This is for Jim and countless others in a similar situation."
