As Solfest festival returns to Cumbria this weekend (August 24), we're featuring a nostalgia that looks at all those great moments caught on camera at the music festival in recent years.

After wet and windy weather hit Cumbria on the evening of August 21, this year's festival was delayed slightly, but ticket-holders will still be excited for a weekend of bank holiday fun.

The award-winning festival first launched in 2004, meaning this year marks the 20th anniversary, and many Cumbrians will have the date marked in their calendar as a weekend to keep free each year.

This year's lineup features big names such as Peter Hook & The Light, The Wailers and The Bluetones.

Carlisle bands Hardwicke Circus and Fat Dads will also be playing, in what promises to be a celebration of some of Cumbria's best musical talent.

Looking back at some of the photos from the past two decades, there are plenty of great light shows, smiling faces, fire sculptures and a few hilarious fancy dresses in there to really bring home the festival atmosphere.

There’s something special about arriving at Solfest, where the atmosphere is laid-back, and the focus is on the simple joys of good music, good company, and a bit of creative flair.

The festival has a warmth to it, with its colourful flags and handmade signs leading you to different stages and areas. It’s the kind of place where you can wander without a plan, stumbling upon music that pulls you in or a craft stall that catches your eye. The performances aren’t just about big names; it’s about discovering something new.

If you didn't make it this year, or haven't managed to attend the festival before, perhaps looking back on these photos will make you want to book a ticket for 2025.
