A Cumbrian teenager has earned her dream spot at a prestigious performing arts school in London.

Summer Brice, from Workington, was born into dance thanks to mum Jenny who runs Theatre Crazy.

She first danced in a ballet aged two, when she was still in nappies and has been performing in regional and national competitions since the age of three.

At age five, she joined the Rumney Greaves Dance Academy, where teacher Jade Greaves has helped to refine her ballet technique, tap and modern skills.

Now, at the age of just 16, Summer has earned her dream spot at London dance school Italia Conti, having had successful auditions at five top schools across the UK.

Mum Jenny said: "I would have pushed her but there was no need. She loved it, loved the stage loved dancing loved singing and performing.

"Due to the huge amount of application to IC they ask for a extensive video audition. With the help of her RGDA teacher Jade, Summer compiled a 30 minute video audition.

"We were massively shocked to get a recall.

Unfortunately, Summer's excitement turned to disappointment when the date clashed with her performing in America, representing the UK, before a second date clashed with her GCSE exams

Jenny added: "After thinking that journey was over we looked at the four other successful offers on the table.

"We were proud of her whatever route she went and she had so many options.

"We then got a call from Italia Conti they were still interested and two of the course leaders were asking for a interview with her. We had a zoom interview at the end of May and after talking to Summer they offered a funded place on the spot."

So Summer is now off to the capital to study a trinity level six diploma in professional dance.

Summer said: ""This is a dream come true, I've always wanted to dance professionally but never dreamed I would get offers at 16 to all these amazing colleges. When they offered me a place on Italia Conti I just couldn't belive it. I must thanks my mum, or Miss Jenny, when I am her classes and all my experiences and support at Theatre Crazy which gave me the confidence to try this at 16. Also to Miss Jade and Miss Faye at RGDA who have taught me different techniques of dance especially Miss Jade and all her hours of ballet technique. She also helped me with the Italia Conti audition tape I had to do. Without all of these years and local dance classes I wouldn't have got this far. I hope I do everyone proud."

However, due to the eye-watering costs of London rent, Summer's family are now looking for are looking for any sponsorship or funding from local businesses.

They have already raised £2,000, thanks to the live the dream fund and the Cumbria cultural fund.

Jenny concluded: "We are unbelievably proud."
