Plans for Carlisle's Victory House to become student accommodation

Plans were put forward to turn a prominent building, which dates back to 1877, in Carlisle’s city centre into student accommodation.

The site, which has been vacant for a number of years and was sold at auction last year, was formerly a bed centre showroom. 

The proposed change of use plans for the building include the creation of 78 student rooms, 26 cycle spaces, communal areas as well as a ‘restaurant’ at street level.

New Ford dealership set to open in Carlisle under new plans

This week planning permission was granted for a number of Ford signs at a site on the Rosehill Industrial Estate, off Park Road, and work is currently underway on a new building there.

Hopes are high that a new commercial vehicle dealership will open its doors in Carlisle early next year.

Revised plan seeks to build 114 'affordable' homes in Carlisle

Plans have been submitted to turn a previously approved application into the site of 114 'affordable homes' in Carlisle. 

The application for land at Burgh Road, which sits within the Carlisle Local Plan, has been put forward to Cumberland Council by the Home Group on August 14, who now seek to bring a 100 per cent 'affordable' housing scheme to the site.

Outline planning permission sought for homes in Penrith

Outline planning permission is being sought to build a residential development at the north of Penrith.

The permission aims to incorporate the scheme into the approved development by Persimmon Homes, as the firm continues to build 229 homes at the adjacent site.

Redevelopment plans revealed for Appleby Grammar School

Plans have been put forward to modernise Appleby Grammar School in a significant building project.

If approved, the redevelopment will involve the construction of a three-storey teaching block, while refurbishing the original 1887 school building and the 1927 science building.

Additionally, the original school building and science building will be connected by a modern walkway, and the remainder of the existing buildings will be demolished.

Plans approved for hotel at former Newton Rigg campus

Plans have been approved to turn former student accommodation into a hotel near Penrith. 

The dormitories, within the Newton Rigg Estate, were last used to house students of the now-dissolved Newton Rigg College.

The buildings - Bessey, Bessy Annex, Herdman, and Capstick - are now able to be transformed into a mix of serviced rooms and apartments.

Plans submitted for remediation work at the Port of Workington

Plans have been submitted at the Port of Workington which, if approved, will allow preparation for 'future development' at the site which has been previously pinned for 'investment opportunities' in the area.

The site has been identified as a 'critical asset' for the growth of the Port of Workington, something which both the local council and government have supported in recent years.

Plans to transform former hotel to 8 flats in Carlisle

Proposals to transform a former Carlisle hotel on Botchergate into eight two-bedroom flats were submitted to the council in July. 

The building, situated above House of Vodka and Ladbrokes, has remained unused and in a state of decay for several years, according to plans.

Gleeson Homes to build 63 more houses at Ivy Mills in Whitehaven

The second phase of a major housing development in Whitehaven was given the green light in July. 

Gleeson Homes say the second phase of the development will transform a once disused brownfield site into a ‘vibrant community’ with 63 homes, offering a mix of 2, 3, and 4-bedroom properties.
