Cumbrian goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been named in interim boss Lee Carsley's first England squad.

The Crystal Palace No1, from Whitehaven, is included in the squad for Nations League games against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

Henderson joins fellow keepers Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope in the 26-man squad for the September fixtures.

The games will see Under-21s head coach Carsley in temporary charge of the senior Three Lions for the first time after the departure of Gareth Southgate.

Henderson, who has one full England cap, was in the England squad for Euro 2024 and remains in the front line of the country's keepers.

There is no place in the squad, though, for Henderson's fellow Cumbrian Jarrad Branthwaite, who is on the comeback trail from a minor groin operation.

The Everton defender, who won his first cap under Southgate earlier this year, has yet to play this season as he recovers from the procedure.

Another Cumbrian recently in the England squad, Burnley's James Trafford, also misses out this time.

Henderson has now established himself as Crystal Palace's first-choice keeper in the Premier League under boss Oliver Glasner - a move that has seen Palace allow Henderson's fellow England international Sam Johnstone depart Selhurst Park, with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers expected to be sealed.

Former Carlisle United academy keeper Henderson's one senior cap to date came in November 2020, when he made a second-half appearance against the Republic of Ireland.

He will now hope to add a second cap when England take on Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday, September 7 before facing Finland at Wembley on Tuesday, September 10.

Carsley, meanwhile, has give first senior call-ups to Newcastle United's Tino Livramento, Lille's Angel Gomes, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Chelsea forward Noni Madueke, who have all played at age group levels for England, including for Carsley's Under-21s.
