We're highlighting the shortlisted bakeries in our competition in the News & Star. Each of the establishments will be featured over ten issues.

Sally's has been nominated by News & Star readers as one of the ten finalists in its 'Best Bakery 2024' award.

The tea room, which is located in Warwick Bridge, is owned and run by Sally Longstaff who opened her business in November 2013.

After being informed of her tea room's nomination for the News & Star's 'Best Bakery 2024', Sally was on hand to express her delight.

She said: "I am absolutely over the moon, it really makes the 60-hour week worth it.

"I was made redundant from Great Corby School in the summer of 2013, at the same time as the Post Office closed in Warwick Bridge so I saw the opportunity and used my catering background to open Sally's.

"I have always enjoyed baking. I am a farmer's daughter, so all our cakes are made fresh and are things that I would have had on a Saturday tea-time all my life.

"We have a little mantra: 'we don't do fancy, we just do good.'"

For Sally, baking is her 'happy place' and she prides herself on the quality and variety of the products that are created and served at her tea room.

She said: "I think we are up to 46 different flavours of scone that we have done up to now and we have seven flavours on the counter every day.

"The only flavour you won't find is plain because what is the point in a plain scone when you can put so many nice things in them?

"If you put all the scones we have made in a line you could get from Warwick Bridge to the Cumberland Infirmary.

"Baking is my happy place. I could have the busiest full-on day and then start baking at six or seven o'clock at night, that is how I like to relax."
