MAGISTRATES have ordered the destruction of an XL bully dog called Bruno and fined the Penrith woman who had possession of it.
Keyleigh Ellen Abigail, 23, pleaded guilty to the offence.
She also admitted a charge of police obstruction at Carlisle’s Rickergate court, accepting she had the dog illegally on February 26 at Penrith.
The defendant, of Roundcliff Road, Penrith, was fined £200 and told to pay £85 prosecution costs. The defendant was not legally represented.
An earlier hearing was told that the defendant planned to commission an expert report to establish whether the dog posed a danger to the public.
In cases when this is accepted not to the case, XL bully dog owners can be allowed to keep them under special licence terms.
Without a valid exemption certificate, it is illegal to own an XL bully dog in England and Wales. It is also an offence to sell, abandon, or let an XL bully stray.
