HONOURING National Burger Day towards the end of August, we asked readers where the best place for a burger is around Carlisle

The battle for the best patty brought with it recommendations from traditional pubs to newly welcomed street food vendors.

Aupa Street Food came out swinging as a fan favourite, with its burgers described as "out of this world" by Liz Zy.

"Best burgers I have ever tasted," she wrote.

Siân Louise gave a nod to Sin City Burgers, whilst Trevvy Crabtree praised the buns at The Thin White Duke.

Dan Graham wrote: "The only correct answer here is clearly The Old Bank."

Plenty of praise also came for the relatively new addition to Carlisle's street food scene, the Smash Shack van.

Clare Duffy said: "I had a wonderful chicken burger from Coco Mill." Similarly, Dale Newton said: "The last one I had at Coco Mill was brilliant."

Mark Blythe said: "Drovers Rest Inn does an amazing burger … everything made on the premises including the roll."

Katherine Eckersley also said: "Crown Inn, Broadfield, is amazing - massive portions!"

David Watson, on the other hand, vouched for local butchers and homemade burgers, naming Cranstons and Pioneer among his recommendations.

In a bid to steer the conversation their way, Amigo’s, said: "Come and see me when I'm back open next week and I'll give you the best smash burger round these parts by a clear mile."

Several others such as Dalston's Bridge End Inn, Crusty Cobbler, In the Meantime, St Nicholas Arms, The Beehive, Stackerz and The Gosling Bridge were also given plaudits by News & Star readers.
