THE owner of a popular sewing studio business is set to host a retreat in the Lake District later this year.
IzzoSew Studio is run by husband-and-wife duo Izzy and Tim Butcher, and was born in 2021 out of a love of sewing, an appreciation of the sewing community and a desire to empower more people to make sustainable clothing choices.
Since then, the studio has hosted several sold-out retreats in a city location but wanted to enhance the experience by offering sewers the chance to get away.
They have organised an retreat at one of Cumbria's most popular hotels - The Inn on the Lake, near Ullswater - on November 2 and 3 this year, with three more retreats planned for 2025.
With the still waters of the Lakes as an inspiring backdrop, sewers of any experience are invited to leave behind the cares of the everyday and spend a weekend dedicating time to a sewing project.
Izzy says: "Growing up in the foothills of the Himalayas instilled in me a deep love for mountainous landscapes and being outdoors. Even now, our sewing studio in Sheffield overlooks a large ancient woodland where I walk almost every day.
"I find sewing to be a mindful activity that relieves stress, improves wellbeing and allows for creative expression.
"Combining sewing with beautiful natural landscapes truly lets the mind reset and rejuvenate.
"Therefore, it was an obvious choice to locate our new retreats within the UK's national parks, blending creativity with nature's calming influence.
"I am confident that our guests will leave feeling inspired and proud of their bespoke creations.”
Participants will be supported by two tutors: Izzy, a trained pattern designer and highly regarded instructor, and Sophie Parker, a fashion graduate and qualified teacher.
To optimise time spent at the retreat, each sewer can join a personal Zoom call with Izzy to discuss their chosen project and to ask for any advice on sizing, fabric choices and patterns.
Tickets for the retreat cost £620 and include an overnight stay on the Saturday, refreshments, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
