A VILLAGE pub is celebrating five years since it was re-opened.

On Wednesday, September 4, the Royal Oak pub celebrated half a decade since it was re-opened by current owner Louise McPhee.

Louise took over at the popular pub in 2019 and since re-opening its doors has restored it as a pillar of Scotby's community, a community she feels 'lucky' to be a part of.

After marking five years since the re-opening of The Royal Oak, Louise reflected on the support she has received over the years and on her favourite memories.

She said: "What an achievement... if I do say so myself!

"It's been a roller coaster, that's for sure, but we did it with all the support from my amazing son Thomas, family, friends, our fabulous and amazing team, and of course you all, our customers and community.

"It has been amazing getting to know everyone and watching families grow as well as making new traditions here at the pub.

"The huge success of the Jubilee to the takeaway shop in the pandemic, parties galore, our famous scones and coffee mornings, children's parties, quizzes, and helping to raise money for charities we support including our Cash 4 Kids.

"Surprise birthdays, funerals where we sadly say goodbye to friends I have met along the way, and importantly being able to support their families too.

"Hosting darts, football, and cricket teams with some glorious after-match dinners, Halloween to the 80s parties, Christmas, and Remembrance Day - to name but a few."

Louise also thanked her 'wonderful' staff for their hard work as well as pledging that the village pub has its best days ahead.

She said: "I have a wonderful team who have stood by me and continue through it all, every twist and turn, adapting, keeping motivated and positive, through the ups and sometimes the downs... I could not have done it without you.

"But most of all the pub is in the heart of a community and does its job, being there for you all.

"The good news is we're not going anywhere just yet, but we do need your continued support.

"From the bottom of my heart, thanks to everyone. I am so proud.

"It's the hardest job in the world and I sacrifice so much to keep the pub going with long, long hours.

"So next time you're in, let's raise a glass and celebrate how lucky we are to live and be a part of this amazing community."
