PLANS have been put forward for an extension at a petrol station in Carlisle alongside the creation of an electric vehicle charging zone at the site.

The application for the petrol station at Morrisons on Kingstown Road was submitted on September 3.

It has been put forward to Cumberland Council by Carney Sweeney on behalf of Motor Fuel Group.

The development plan includes an extension to the existing petrol filling station's sales building and charging points, as well as the "erection of a canopy, jet wash bays, sub-station enclosure, LV panel, meter cabinet, plant room, and related works".

The application includes a cover letter stating, "MFG’s proposal to install new EV charging points and extend the existing sales area at the Morrisons site should be considered positively in the light of the national context and the demand for the necessary infrastructure to support electric vehicle use across the UK.

"The proposals would contribute positively to the existing EV charging network, to the benefit of those utilising the strategic highway network surrounding the application site."

Moreover, the proposal claims it will "enhance the existing offer at the site, without compromising the efficient operation of the facility."

Six parking spaces are said to be lost on-site as a result of the proposal.
