A DRUG-driver who was under the influence of two substances has been handed a two-year driving ban.

Paul Mitchell, 50, was driving a Renault Traffic van on the A595 Loop Road North in Whitehaven on April 5 when the offences took place.

A blood test showed Mitchell had 191mcg of Benzoylecgonine – the body breakdown product for cocaine – per litre of blood. The specified limit is 50mcg.

He also had 3mcg of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol per litre of blood. The specified limit is 2mcg.

Mitchell, of Browside Road, Dearham, Maryport, pleaded guilty to two charges of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

Magistrates sitting in Workington banned the defendant from driving for 24 months and imposed a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work.

Mitchell must also pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
