Cumberland Council has provided an update on the ongoing £1m A5086 Frizington roadworks.

The road has been closed to vehicles while the council carries out road repairs, footway upgrades, drainage replacement, and refreshing road markings.

Projected to finish its second phase on September 7, the upgrade is set to commence phase three on September 9, concluding on September 13.

The focus of this phase will be the stretch between the mini roundabout and Church Street, and with further disruptions forecasted.

Approaching September 16, ongoing workings will instigate a traffic management system with no anticipated road closures for three weeks.

However, a two-way traffic light will be installed.

Phase 4 from October 7 to the 13th, there will be a road closure from Church Street to the tip.

The final phase, beginning October 14 and is estimated to terminate on October 19, will close the road from the tip to Kenmare Tyres.

However, these dates are subject to change depending on weather conditions.

School buses will be granted access through closed areas between 7.45am – 8.30am and 3pm – 3.45pm.

Cumberland Councillor Denise Rollo, Executive Member for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said: “These improvements are essential for the future of our communities, and it’s great to see the investment coming to life.

“I would like to personally thank the Frizington community for their patience and support and encourage everyone to continue supporting local businesses during this period. We are committed to continue to create a safer, more efficient transport network for everyone across Cumberland.”
