A FORMER teacher is set to release the next edition of the 2025 Maryport Rescue Cooks' Calendar.
The 2024 calendar, featuring fish recipes from some of Cumbria's most celebrated chefs, raised more than £3,500 for the life-saving charity, Maryport Rescue.
Mandy Gruber, who lives in Cockermouth, first came up with the idea last year after stumbling upon the Maryport Rescue while buying fresh fish from the family-run business Chelaris.
"With the chefs involved this year, I believe the calendar could reach a much wider audience," Ms Gruber said.
The calendar showcases 12 recipes, five of which come from Michelin-starred chefs renowned in Cumbria.
Among this year's features include recipes from Cedar Tree's Hrishikesh Desai and L'enclume's Simon Rogan.
Grants Oak Smoked has once again played a pivotal role in funding most of the printing costs so that every penny goes to the Maryport Rescue.
With recipes inspired by using fresh fish from Chelaris, Mandy hopes that by highlighting the importance of local produce, the calendar will resonate with both food enthusiasts and those passionate about supporting a life-saving charity.
Each date in the calendar has also been available for sponsorship, with local businesses contributing along the way.
“This year, I made a few recipes out of the 2024 calendar, including Ben Queen-Fryers' Dover sole and a reasonable attempt at the fish pie.
"A few friends tried and gave great feedback.
"I’m so thankful for the businesses, chefs, and everyone who has supported us. Special thanks to Alan Spedding, who connected me with this year's Michelin chefs and provided invaluable technical advice.
"Chelaris, Press Printers, and Grants Oak Smoked have been amazing sponsors," she said.
For those interested in supporting the cause, the 2025 calendar will be available for sale soon at various locations in West Cumbria, including Maryport Rescue, The Aquarium, and several local businesses.
A new dedicated website will also be launching soon, where supporters can purchase the calendar, with all proceeds going towards the charity.
