The opening contest of the afternoon (2.20) sees a field of 12 head to the start for the class five novice stakes over five furlongs. Thecla is taken to build on a midfield debut at Southwell for trainer Kevin Ryan in the Carlisle opener on her second racecourse start having shown enough in that debut to warrant some improvement here. Of her rivals, Maid Of Killybegs is an interesting newcomer for Charlie Johnston, a half-sister to several winners including Killybegs Warrior.

The Feminine Urge was a ready winner at Catterick last time out on August 19 for trainer George Scott and looks the one to beat in race two at Carlisle (2.50) to follow up on that first success. I Need Your Love was third last time out for Mick and David Easterby at Beverley last month and rates the chief threat in this five furlong class five nursery contest.

A big field of 16 will take on race three of Carlisle’s card on Wednesday - a class six handicap over five furlongs for horses aged three and upwards at 3.25. Sounds Of Spring landed a massive gamble at Ffos Las last time out having tumbled down the weights just under a fortnight ago and remains well-treated by the handicapper so the John Butler-trained seven-year-old is the one to beat in this contest.

A five furlong handicap in class six marks race four on the card (3.55) and ten runners are set to tackle the trip. Previous course and distance winner Secret Command should be up there again for trainer Adrian Nicholls off the back of a third at Beverley 28 days ago but preference here heads the way of Eldeyaar, who made all in a ready win at Wolverhampton on his last spin just six days ago and can shoulder a penalty this time to follow up.

The Ralph Beckett-trained Games People Play looks the one to beat in race five (4.28) with her maiden form having worked out well and is back in maiden company here after a below-par run at Haydock so in much calmer waters, should get the job done ahead of South Pole, feared most for trainer George Boughey with the blinkers on for the first time following a pair of midfield starts for his new yard having moved over from Ireland.

A field of 15 will take on the penultimate race on the card (5.03) with Braes Of Doune for trainer Jim Goldie in with a big shout, a winner at Ayr and Musselburgh earlier this season but disappointed last time out on August 28, though not helped by being slowly away and also hampered throughout his run in before being eased down.

Finally, the Flat season comes to an end at Carlisle with a class five handicap over six furlongs (5.33) and of the 12 runners set to take it on, preference in the finale heads the way of Myal, who arrives in the best form of the field for trainer Steph Hollinshead after a win at Haydock on August 10 and is dropping back in trip here.
