KESWICK Mountain Rescue have rescued a climber who fell down a 'steep slope' on Castle Rock of Triermain.

The team were called out at 17:25 pm on Monday, September 9 after the climber fell five to six metres after having an initial fall broken by landing on a friend.

The rescue involved the Keswick Mountain Rescue team as well as the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

Writing on social media, Keswick Mountain Rescue said: "A climber on the south crag of Castle Rock took a leader fall of a couple of metres breaking his fall by landing on his belayer friend, they both tumbled a further 5-6m down the steep slope.

"The climber sustained an ankle injury and his friend got away with a sore shoulder only. The man’s helmet did a great job of saving his head.

"On arrival, the team did a medical assessment, splinted the ankle, and because of the mechanism of injury – a tumbling fall from height – the man was placed in a vacuum mattress for the awkward stretcher carry down to the road.

"The man was then taken to hospital in a NWAS ambulance for treatment."

The rescue involved 17 team members and lasted two and a half hours.
