A memorial service has been planned to commemorate soldiers from the Border Regiment who fought and died in the Battle of Arnhem in 1944.
The battle was fought in the Dutch city of Arnhem and was part of the allied liberation of mainland Europe during World War II.
The allies had made steady progress through France and Belgium and launched operation ‘Market Garden’ in September 1944.
The service is being held at Carlisle Cathedral on Saturday, September 14 at 3pm which has a dedicated chapel to the Border Regiment.

The wrought iron grilles that surround the Border Regimental Chapel altar are decorated with the regiment's battle honours and emblems and on this grille, on the north side of the Chapel, there is a reference to Arnhem 1944.
All are welcome to attend the service and no tickets are required.
