Brampton and Cockermouth town centres are set for a deep clean.

Cockermouth will kick off the cleaning on Monday, September 16, while Brampton will follow suit on Monday, September 23.

Each town is expected to be spruced up in approximately one week.

The initiative aims to enhance the cleanliness and appearance of key streets, creating a more inviting atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

In Cockermouth, the cleaning team will focus on the B5292 Main Street from Sullart Street to Station Street (up to the traffic lights), and the Marketplace.

In Brampton, the team will tackle Front Street from Gelt Road to the start of Craw Hall, the Marketplace, High Cross Street, and outside of the shops on Main Street.

The street cleaning teams will employ specialist tools like jet washers and mechanical sweepers.

These will help remove chewing gum, ingrained dirt, and other debris from pavements and pedestrian areas.

Cumberland Council has assured that the cleaning process will be managed to minimise disruption to the public and businesses.

Traffic control measures will be implemented, and special care will be taken on market days to ensure minimal inconvenience.

The cleaning will be carried out in sections, allowing teams to inspect and tidy each area before moving on to the next.

For any questions or concerns before or during the cleaning programme, residents can contact Cumberland Council’s customer service centre during office hours at 0300 373 3730.
