A NEW therapy centre is opening in West Cumbria. 

Eleanor James has decided to set up the Osteopathic Treatment Centre in Workington. 

She aims to treat and support people with chronic physical conditions and other ailments. 

Miss James said: "It is a holistic approach to healthcare, we focus on diagnosing, treating, and preventing a wide range of health issues. 

"It doesn't rely on medicine and drugs, it's more manual therapy and techniques that improve function and help to alleviate pain. 

"I've moved to the area and have opened up business here in West Cumbria. I trained in London and how much osteopathic care is relied on in the south of England is a lot higher than in the north. 

"Coming up to Cumbria I realised that there was so much that could be done to alleviate the strain on local healthcare systems."

Eleanor said that she thought the new venture would be a 'great opportunity' stating that there are few osteopaths who work in the surrounding area. 

She hopes that her treatment centre will better the local West Cumbrian community. 

Miss James continued: "I've had a lot of interest so far; I've got a friend who's a GP who's really looking forward to me opening up.

"There are a lot of people who play sports in the area, many of those are training and have had sport-related accidents. 

"I'm going to be doing a Postgraduate in Women's Health and started doing a 'Mummy MOT' course which deals with the effects of pregnancy. 

"I love helping those who play sports, but I want to help the whole family and widen my grasp into all areas of life."

Eleanor says that people may not understand what exactly osteopaths can treat because of the lack of exposure to this kind of treatment in the area. 

Her main aims are to improve mobility, relieve pain, and support overall health. She also hopes to improve the circulation of the patients that she treats. 

Some of the conditions that osteopathy can treat include fibromyalgia, arthritis, and other chronic illnesses.
