Green fingered volunteers will be taking steps to turn sections of a town's playing fields into a wildflower meadow.

Brampton residents and local gardening fans are invited to pop down to Irthing Park to help plant 1,500 wildflower plugs.

The Wildflower Planting Day will be held at the park on Wednesday September 18 from 10.30am-2.30pm.

Brampton Green and Wild is working with Cumbria Wildlife Trust as part of its Fibrus-funded Get Cumbria Buzzing, Not Buffering project which will create or restore 15 wildlife havens across the county by 2025.

The group has already sown mixtures of wildflower seeds on sections of Irthing Park to encourage wildlife to populate the meadow.

They hope that it will be of benefit to both wildlife and local residents who will be able to learn more about the insects and animals enjoying the meadow.

All equipment will be provided on the day but volunteers are asked to bring a drink and lunch as well as to wear clothing that they don't mind getting muddy.

Anybody is invited to join the planting for either a short session or for the entire day.
