The first endoscopy modules are arriving on site at the Cumberland Infirmary.

The first of the modular units for the new endoscopy unit are arriving this weekend, which will bring some temporary disruption to the Cumberland Infirmary site according to North Cumbria Integrated Care.

A crane arrived at 5am on Saturday morning and is positioned on the road next to the roundabout in front of the hospital until 5pm on Sunday.

This will prevent vehicles from using the main drop off, although pedestrian access will remain.

There will be staff on hand to help anyone who needs assistance. Disabled access to the site will remain unaffected at the rear of the hospital.

The unit will enable patients to be seen more locally in Carlisle instead of Newcastle as well as provide better access to endoscopy services.

A spokesperson for NCIC said: “Thank you for your patience while we build this new unit.”
