A pair of young Cumbrian bowling aces have been crowned national champions at the Bowls England National Finals.
Ryan Corkill and Callum Hodgson are members of Whitehaven Recreation Bowling Club and Wigton Bowling Club respectively and were crowned national Junior Pairs champions on Friday, August 30.
The 2024 Aviva Bowls England National Bowls Final took place between Thursday, August 15, and Sunday, September 1 at Leamington Spa's Victoria Park, with over 190 players from all over the country and from all age groups competing.
After the conclusion of the national finals, Peter Brown, president of the Cumbria Bowling Association expressed his delight at Ryan and Callum's success as well as sparing a word for Cumbria's other winner from Carlisle Subscription Bowling Club.
He said: "It was a privilege to attend the 2024 Aviva Bowls England National Bowls finals at Leamington Spa as president of the Cumbria Bowling Association.
"The Cumbrian Bowlers won two trophies the Junior Pairs and The Senior Fours.
"The Junior under 25 Pairs Trophy was won by Ryan Corkill and Callum Hodgson.
"Ryan Corkill is a member of Whitehaven Recreation Bowling Club and Callum Hodgson is a member of Wigton Bowling Club.
"Ryan and Callum started their bowls journey to the Leamington National finals by teaming up as Junior Pairs in April this year and going on to become Cumbria County Junior Pairs Champians at the Finals Day at Whitehaven Recreation Bowls Club on Sunday, July 28.
"Both players have a bright future and the ability to go on and play for England on the world stage.
"The final was streamed on August 30 and can be seen by going onto Aviva Bowls England Leamington Finals website.
"The Senior Fours Trophy was won by John Baird, Lawrence Kelly, David Lee, and Tom Prescott all From Subscription Bowling Club Carlisle."
