A CARLISLE man has appeared in court accused of controlling a woman’s finances, phone usage and trying to cause her grievous bodily harm.

Jamie Wilson, aged 25, of Caslin Way, faced three charges at the city’s magistrates’.

One alleges that he attempted to cause the woman grievous bodily harm with intent to do so. This arises out of an incident in Carlisle on Saturday, August 14, this year.

That charge is classed in law as “indictable only” which means it can only be dealt with before a judge at a crown court.

A second charge faced by Wilson alleges the use of controlling or coercive behaviour towards the same complainant. Court papers show that this conduct is alleged to have involved him controlling the woman’s finances, phone usage and movements between August 24 and September 15.

A third charge alleges that Wilson intimidated the woman by asking her to alter an account she had given to police.

When he appeared in the court dock, Wilson pleaded not guilty to all three charges as they were read to him by a legal advisor.

He is due to appear in front of a crown court judge on September 23.

In the meantime he has been remanded in custody.
