Dalemain Mansion, in Penrith, hosted its Harvest Festival on September 15, which featured a plethora of informative, seasonal demonstrations.

These included the North Cumbria Orchard Group’s presentation of information on apples and how to press them to make juice.

One family was seen to have driven a small trailer laden with apples to be pressed, and in case guest pressers were initially disconcerted, they were assuredly appeased via gifted bottled cider juiced the year prior as thanks.

Meanwhile, on the far side of the fair beyond the various plant and artisan stalls, Poppy the Fell Pony munched on her fresh summer hay enjoying her stable looking out to the occasional rain shower.

There were also talks on bees and beer, a corn dolly workshop, and guided tours of the Countryside and Fell Pony Museum.

Dalemain is, in the meantime, gearing up for its next marmalade festival, its flagship event.

A spokesperson from Dalemain said: “Marmalade is never far from our thoughts.

“Next year is the 20th anniversary of the awards.

“As well as the local harvest this festival also commended gold award winners from around the world for sale many of whom had harvested their citrus in their warmer countries including Australia and Japan.”

Entries can be sent to Dalemain Mansion from January 1, 2025, with the Dalemain World Marmalade Festival taking place on April 26.
