One of the organisers of the Cumbria Charity Convoy has said he is ‘overwhelmed’ by the reaction to their ‘best event yet’
Hundreds of trucks and spectators gathered from across the North of England and Scotland for the Cumbria Charity Convoy and Gathering which took place at Clifton Dykes, south of Penrith.
Saturday morning, saw the Convoy taking place, with tractors and trucks leaving Clifton Dykes on a 28-mile circular route passing through off Eamont Bridge, Langwathby, Culgaith, Temple Sowerby, Kings Meaburn before returning to Clifton Dykes.
Once the vehicles were back on site, the show field was open to the public, to view the vehicles as well as Lawn Mower racing demonstrations, tractor pulling and Tractor Dyno testing, where tractors are hooked up to technology to see what horsepower their engines have.
As well as this, there was fun fair rides for children, as well as entertainment and adult disco.
The event gave drivers the chance to catch up with friends and colleagues as well as showing off their vehicles new and old.
Despite the wet weather, there was still a large crowd of people in attendance at the event which was raising money for the Great North Air Ambulance and the Cumbria Cancer Care Unit at Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.
The total amount has yet to be totted up but organiser, Kevin Chappelhow said that this year was the best event yet.
“Everyone that helped this year have just done an amazing job,” said Kevin.
“We worked tirelessly to pull this off and it's been another huge success.
"The event just seems to be getting bigger and bigger every year and it runs so well with a great atmosphere.

“It seems to fall into place and obviously the help and support we get from everybody makes it so much easier to organise.
“We’re all full-time workers and it's just in our spare time that we organise the event.
“I'm a long-distance wagon driver, so I go away on a Monday morning and I'm not home till Friday night, or even sometimes a Saturday morning so it's a real team effort.”
Plans are already underway for next year’s convoy.
