An 89-year-old man was rescued from the Lake District earlier this week after he sat down for a rest and couldn't get back up.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were contacted by Cumbria Police in the evening of Monday, September 16 about the elderly man, who was walking down Place Fell with his wife.
The couple had started down a steep decent, sat down for a rest and found he could not get back up. They then rang the police to contact Patterdale MRT for assistance. Given their location and that the limited numbers available, Penrith Mountain Rescue Team provided some support with this job.
As Patterdale MRT arrived at the casualties location, they found that they had travelled further down the fell than when they had initially requested help. On this occasion this made their job a little easier and after the team doctors checked him over, he was put in a stretcher and lowered off the fell where he and he and wife were driven to Base in a team Landrover.
He was given a final assessment by the doctor again and they then made their own way home.
