CARLISLE United legend Stan Bowles is set to be remembered at an upcoming charity football match.

The former Blue, who played five times for England as well as representing Queen's Park Rangers, and Nottingham Forest amongst others during his career, sadly passed away in February and will now be remembered at a charity match on Saturday, October 19.

The match, which has been organised by Stan's son and family, will take place at Avro FC's Vestacare Stadium in Oldham and will raise money for Alzheimer's Society.

Writing on social media, Wythenshawe FC Veterans, who will be involved in the match, said: "Join us for a special charity football match as we celebrate the life and legacy of a football legend while raising funds for the Alzheimer's Society.

"This event is an opportunity to come together as a community, honour the contributions of an iconic player Stan Bowles, and support a cause close to our hearts.

"All proceeds from the match will go towards the Alzheimer's Society, helping to fund crucial research, support services, and awareness initiatives for those affected by dementia.

"Together, we can make a difference. Let's show our love for the beautiful game and for the people it touches in so many ways."

Bowles joined Carlisle from Crewe Alexandra in 1971 and starred for Ian MacFarlane's United side in Division Two.

The Greater Manchester-born player flourished at United, scoring 12 goals in 33 appearances and turning in a series of memorable performances.

Among them was a 3-0 win over table-topping Norwich City when Bowles fired a stunning hat-trick at Brunton Park.

He was also part of the United side that stunned Italian giants AS Roma with a 3-2 victory in the Stadio Olimpico in 1972.
