AN OSCAR-winning actor has been spotted filming in the western Lake District for an upcoming Hollywood film.
Cillian Murphy, star of Peaky Blinders, has been seen in Ennerdale with film crews who are understood to be involved in the filming of 28 Years Later - a follow-up to the critically acclaimed 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.
The A-lister, who won the Best Actor Academy Award for ‘Oppenheimer’ earlier this year, has been filming at Bowness Cottage in Ennerdale.
A fence was built around the cottage and raised beds with plants were put in the back garden while filming took place.
Ennerdale resident Louise Benn spotted Murphy filming scenes in the valley. He was pictured wearing dark grey clothing, with an ‘injury’ to his collarbone. Scenes of zombies running down a hill were also being filmed.
It is understood that crews have been filming the end of part one of the 28 Years Later horror trilogy and the beginning of part two, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
They have since been seen packing up the site, which is expected to take about a week.
Crews were also spotted filming in various locations in County Durham, Tyne and Wear and Northumberland, during the summer.
According to film site, IMDB: "Originally, the follow-up was set to be titled 28 Months Later, continuing with the movie's timeline-set title motif. However, after so much time had passed since we last returned to this world in 2007 (28 Weeks Later), it was deemed more appropriate to name the film 28 Years Later."
The film, which also stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jack O’Connell, is expected to be released in June 2025.
