Calls have been made for a joint UK and Scottish government task force to be set-up to deliver urgent upgrades to a key cross-border road.
The South West Scotland Transport Alliance (SWSTA) is calling for the task force to be set-up to ensure that much-needed improvements to the A75 will be made which will improve safety, benefit the environment, and boost the economy.
The A75 is an essential road for transport between Cumbria and Dumfries and Galloway, including for freight and tourism traffic heading to and from the ferry terminals at Cairnryan.
It is hoped that a joint government taskforce would focus on how physical improvements are secured, when they will happen and how they will be paid for.
The SWSTA is also seeking assurances about £8 million funding promised by the previous government to carry out feasibility studies for bypassing two villages to the west of Dumfries.
