A RESIDENT has raised concerns about a lack of available parking outside his home - claiming that it's commuting Sellafield workers who are taking up the spaces.
Ed Corrie, of Cringlethwaite in Egremont, says he has found it difficult to park outside or near his home due to multiple commuters parking near the property.
Mr Corrie hopes that the issue will be resolved soon, and also says that his neighbours have raised concerns about the issue.
He said: "There is a main road that goes up past our house down to the bottom of the street.
"People who work at Sellafield are coming and parking cars more or less bumper to bumper up in front of our houses.
"I can't get parked outside my house and visitors can't park there. The workers are all parking bumper to bumper until around 5pm.
"I'd like to see something done about it as it is affecting my visitors and me.
"There is also a car park in Egremont for Sellafield workers to park on. So I don't see why they can't use the free car park instead of blocking our road and stopping us from getting in or out.
"I'd heard that before I came to live here, residents had already contacted the press about the issue and that there had been a piece in the local newspaper.
"People are sick of the workers parking in front of their houses, other residents have mentioned to us about the issue."
A Sellafield Ltd spokesman said: “We are aware of the issues raised.
“We work closely with our communities and local authorities to recognise and reduce our impact on the local transport network.
“We have a number of park-and-ride facilities and commuter/shuttle buses to support employees’ travel to work.
“We regularly remind our employees to be considerate to local residents when using these services and to use designated parking areas where possible.”
