Taste Cumbria Cockermouth, one of the most anticipated food festivals in the region, is set to return next weekend.
Set in the heart of the historic market town of Cockermouth, the festival offers a vibrant celebration of local produce, culinary talent, and Cumbrian traditions, and has been a firm favourite in the region since 2010.
At the heart of the event is the bustling producers’ market, where visitors can sample and purchase an array of goods, from artisanal cheeses and meats to handmade chocolates, baked treats, and locally distilled spirits.
These stalls highlight the rich agricultural heritage of the Lake District, connecting visitors directly to the farmers and food producers who sustain the region.
One of the highlights is the street party held in Market Place. It creates a lively atmosphere, with street food vendors serving a variety of cuisines, from hearty British classics to international dishes. In addition to the fantastic food, a drinks tent will be set up with local beers, ciders, and spirits. There’s even a designated picnic area where festival-goers can relax and enjoy live music performances.
For those interested in learning more about cooking, the festival features cookery demonstrations led by local chefs and culinary experts. These demonstrations showcase innovative techniques while promoting the use of seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients. It’s an excellent opportunity for visitors to pick up some tips and inspiration for their own cooking.
Taste Cumbria, which is organised by Cumberland Council, is also a family-friendly event, with plenty of activities to keep children entertained, including fairground rides and interactive workshops.
The event’s community-driven nature makes it not only a celebration of food but also a platform for local businesses and craftspeople to showcase their work.
The festival’s emphasis on sustainability and localism reflects Cockermouth’s commitment to supporting its small businesses and reducing environmental impact, aligning with wider trends in the UK’s food scene. Whether you’re a serious foodie or just looking for a fun day out, Taste Cumbria offers something for everyone.
The flagship festival will run on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, and is free for all to attend.
