DESPITE the heavy rain, a charity golf day in Carlisle has raised over £4,000 for local cancer care services.
The Centre Stage Charity Golf Day took place last Sunday at Stony Holme Golf Course and saw 26 teams of four—104 golfers in total—brave the rain to support the cause.
The annual event, organised by Andy Park who runs an entertainment agency in Carlisle, featured participants not only from Carlisle but also from as far as Whitley Bay and Lancashire.
“It absolutely poured down,” said Andy, "but it was a great turnout."
“People were so generous. With £2,000 raised last year, it looks like we’re close to £4,000 this year.
"People are already looking forward to next year," he said.
The charity golf day coincided with Stony Holme Golf Course’s 50th anniversary, with Andy praising the venue for its continuous 'top-class greens'.
Additionally, another charity golf event is scheduled next weekend in Whitehaven, expected to raise further funds for cancer care.
All funds raised will go to The Northern Centre for Cancer Care North Cumbria.
“In my life, charity started on stage, then it went onto print, and now it’s gone into golf," he said.
Copies of Andy Park's Centre Stage book, which are available for purchase, continue to raise funds for The Northern Centre for Cancer Care North Cumbria.
Purchases can be made by contacting Andy Park via andypark8181@gmail.com
They are also available at Laing's Coffee Shop at Harker.
